Edit Market Funds :

Market Funds are publicly traded funds, whose value you which to monitor or analyse. This functionality is for analysis only, these market funds do not count towards totals on index in the continuum.  This feature is intended to allow consolidate analysis of your entire portfolio, not for day trading, since it only holds one value per day and preferably sampled even less frequently to render a graph with clearly
defined points.

So you can enter a new market fund with a MarketSymbol and you can provide a quanity (number of shares). Once data for these funds is aquired (covered later), you can view these funds' historical performance in two graphs : Unit Price (value of single stock) and Stock Values ( value of stock * quantity).

You can acquire data in only two ways, both use yahoo web service. One way is to utilize the DownloadFundPerformance screen to download an entire series of values / history for a given fund. The other way is to enable the 'Automatically grab daily web quotes' option in the Edit Projector screen. If that option is enabled, then daily quotes will be added whenever you start continuum and also if the date changes (if you run on a notebook and put to sleep, and you wake up the notebook the next day it will automatically grab new values after a minute or so. This minute delay is to ensure wireless has reconnected.

Its possible that eventually stocks might be utiltized for calculation of current value statistics, but that effort might not be worth the value. As it is now, with market funds being purely analytical, it manages to provide clear performance of those funds without the influence of a changing share quanity influencing it. Also it would be difficult for the user to determine their contribution rate (for 401k)... how many shares did you buy this month?

Market values are not stored in the same file as the continuum. Instead their values are automatically saved in .market or .marketx files of the same name as your continuum. You cannot edit the values, but you can delete the market files to clear the fund list/values and downloading fund performance will clear the entire history before adding the new samples... so you can regenerate them at different sample rates until you get a good sample.
